A relatively recent addition to the chess tactics literature, this book is comprehensive and relatively advanced. As such it is probably more suitable for the experienced player. The tactics presented are excerpts taken from actual games of the masters and legends of the game.

The thing I like about Seirawan's books on strategy and tactics is that at the end of the book he has some very nice annotated games illustrating the principles that he discussed with the book featuring chess history's greatest strategists (such as Capablanca and Karpov) and tacticians (such as Tal and Kasparov).

One cannot solve efficiently tactical puzzles before grasping the basics of the chess tactics - and I didn't find (so far) a better book which explains so thoroughly the basic elements of the chess combinations. P.S. This book has the 2nd edition under a different title: "Chess Tactics from Scratch"; I haven't read it yet (but I will, I will!)/5(6).
